SS pigeon ring 1936

Article about: hi guys got a question a few days ago i was metaldetecting and found this SS pigeon ring date 1936 at the German border near Holland i know the Germans used pigeons,and some rings got the ad

    I guess I was thinking of Bird banding , when the band adult migratory birds for tracking .

    Its all coming back to me now, its a long long time since I even thought about this. I am referring to racing pigeons of course. An expandable rubber ring is applied on race morning or the evening before, the rubber band is then removed when the bird enters the loft after returning home, the rubber ring is then inserted into the clock and it records how long the bird took to get home

    The one piece ring is attached to the bird when its very young, the owner will be issued with a certain amount of rings and it proves the bird belongs to him/her.

    I cant imagine the SS being that concerned where their pigeons ended up ?? ....
