Tropical / late war canteen (?)

Hi All,

Any thoughts on this canteen?

It's a 1940 alu with wool cover and "tropical" straps. It's missing the bakelite cup - should there be that thin leather strap around the neck - as on the coconut canteen?

Looks OK?

Someone is offering it for around 25 EU

Janssen Militaria is selling a tropical 1 Liter canteen complete w/cup for 45 Euros, and it's in better shape overall as well...

A few remarks on this one :

While it is possible that a canteen has a mix of leather and webbing straps, it also could be a mix of parts (mixed postwar).... the canteen itself is dated 40, so the cover could belong to it, but it is not clear if the straps belonged to the canteen (originally)

I would wait for a better one to be honest

yeah - I kind of passed on both of these - and Xmas is also killed me financially

I have a "black sheep" gasmask can in my collection - I will get that thread up and goin' - it has "fall forest" camo paint and a repair (can't tell if field repair or not), that one has no straps - but if you guys won't hate it and has a slight chance, I'll get straps for it from you.
