    Cheers Ade, must be more attentive to details !! Also picked this up a while ago, half plate relic, Totenkopf, found in Demjansk i believe

    To return to the original question, i think the runes especially look like they are spray painted. The "bar" also. There is a slight black "mist" around the letters imo.

    Kind of off thread, but reminds me of a line in Lehmann's biography, "In Hitler's Bunker". Just days before the end, Berlin surrounded and in ruins, Axmann asks 16 year old HJ courier Lehmann to deliver a message via motorcycle. Axmann enquired if Lehmann had a valid driver's license, which he did not. Axmann forbid him to drive. Crazy!
