My Aunt told me my Grandfather got this from a Portuguese fisherman when the White Fleet was in St.John's Newfoundland sometime in the 1960's. This would explain how it came from Europe.
If a person could always trace an item's history like this, it would be a fascinating hobby,indeed! Think of how many times you've held an object in your hands and have no clue at all about where it's been or why or anything else about it! Stories like these are always interesting!
