Wehrmacht canteen WW2?

Article about: Does anybody know if this is a german WW2 gasmask? It looks like a more recent gasmask canister. Thanks.

    The rubber gasket tells me it is Bundeswehr. I think this immediate post war type also had a cloth cover if I'm not mistaken. NH

    Hello Mikel,
    That's indeed a Bundeswehr gasmask canister.
    The NATO number tells the all story, not the rubber sealer unfortunatly as the latter can be found on canisters produced from 1941. This inner circle in rubber was one of the changes decided in 1941 in order to improve both water and airtightness of the canister. It is believed that it was discontinued quite fastly for economical reasons but as usual some makers did have huge stocks and used them until they ran out...so you can find some in late produced canisters.
