Seller has revealed "I can only state where this was found along with hundreds of others, all dug up from what used to be a German WWII airfield in france"

    EXTRA Details just in ................

I am very interested now you have brought the subject up.....I am always finding out new bits and pieces about items I have had for years, but this one is even more interesting now you have brought it to my attention.

The block is length 7 ins height 3 ins width 5 ins. I dont have a clue what its made from but maybe you do. It appears to be heat resistant type material and is quite heavy, I am sure the germans like many other nationalities used items for things other than what they were designed for....but I did find many of these on a site that used to be a WWII German Airfield. and they were all in line buried in the grass. The British had a similar system of lighting up runways for returning aircraft at night, they used long trenches i believe filled with a small amount of petroleum which burnt just bright enough for incoming aircraft to land "reasonably" safely although i have heard many horror stories of such landing not being so successful. Its all very interesting to me. I have had a huge collection for over 40 years now but time has come to sell up. Ive enjoyed it all very very much but retirement is looming and the money would be useful. Sadly much of the German collection will have to be sold elsewhere as Ebay do not allow the items to be sold on here, and i respect their views so do not try to fluff over prohibited items by hiding them or what they contain.

My relations fought for Britain and they had the same respect for the ordinary german soldier they had for others, but according to my Uncle they shot anyone SS. Sad and horrific time by all accounts. But still part of history...

    All the best

Not quite so secret if he has found it with hundreds of others!!

Seriously not seen anything like it before but if it existed then there ought to be documentary evidence for it somewhere.

Default airfields set up pre invasion (secret)

lol temporary/secret was something I initially added when the seller was dripfeeding me info....................

The seller took a while coming back to me with info, I initially used that term due to the limited amount of light these oil burning lamp blocks would have emitted.

I do know that France and other countries including even the UK had secret airfields set up before being initially invaded (no invasion uk as they didn't get that far)

    Dimensions of the block btw is 7 x 5 x 3 inches

    Check this article out ......

Nazi undercover workers even laid out barns and chicken huts in swastika shapes so they could be identified from the air by enemy planes

A SECRET network of Nazi aerodromes was created in the English countryside by Dutch farmers working for Hitler before the Second World War, classified wartime papers have revealed.

Police and MI5 failed to work out the farmers were creating a network of airstrips, to fly in German stormtroopers, across 2,000 acres of farmland for four years from 1936.

This was despite enemy spies flattening fields to use as runways, creating hangar-shaped Dutch barns and even laying out chicken huts in the shape of swastikas.

A recently unearthed Air Ministry dossier reveals that by the time the RAF spotted the bases from the air in 1940, England stood on the brink of invasion and Hitler's bomber and paratrooper squadrons were ready to fly.

English Heritage military expert Roger Thomas found the hidden file by accident in the public records office at Kew.

Nazi spies built a network of enormous aerodromes over Norfolk ready to land Hitlers storm troopers within goose-stepping distance of the Sandringham Estate

He said: "I was absolutely astonished. There was nothing in the Press about it or anything in the written history. "There were two of the barns at Sporle so who knows if Sandringham was a target. But the whole story is quite intriguing.

"The Germans used a similar trick when they invaded the Low Countries using landing grounds on pre-arranged sites before their main force arrived."

One landing spot was made up of two farms at Sporle, near King's Lynn, just 16 miles from Sandringham.

The Royal lawns were also flanked by another hidden aerodrome made up of another two farms 25 miles away at Guestwick.

Fields were flattened with no crops to act as hidden runways

The plot was discovered in 1940 when the RAF was scouting East Anglia to build its own new airfields. But every suitable site had between one and three Dutch-style barns.

When MI5 investigated it found all ten sites were operated by the the Dutch-owned East Anglian Real Property Company.

Norfolk Police until their Chief Constable gave orders to round up the plotters.
Each airstrip was at least 200 acres - the equivalent of 100 two acre football pitches. The grounds of Buckingham Palace cover 40 acres.
The spies, who were quickly rounded up, finished nine airfields in Norfolk and one near Woking in Surrey before the authorities realised.

The Dutchmen claimed they needed the supersize barns to house corn and specialised grain machinery.

Nazi spies built a network of enormous aerodromes over Norfolk ready to land Hitlers storm troopers within goose-stepping distance of the Sandringham Estate
Huge barns that would act as hangars were found empty
But the buildings were empty and there was nothing growing on the farms.
According to the files, the fields were all at least 200 acres, bare of crops, and "rolled hard".

In the document the Air Ministry warned "Consider immediate investigation of site and neighbouring population essential".

Many of the Dutch barns still survive today and much of the hastily applied camouflage paint has flaked off to reveal the original red roof tops. Mr Thomas hopes the full story behind the conspiracy, and whether Sandringham was a target, will be revealed when the wraps come off a heap of MI5 files.

I very much doubt it. The Luftwaffe used "Panzerhandlampen" for this purpose. Furthermore Luftwaffe equipment is always clearly marked with Fl. numbers etc. plus we can find it in various Luftwaffe manuals and guides. I very much doubts these "stones" have anything to do with the Luftwaffe, just another wild story. Frankly it looks like somebody is trying to flog you bricks....

    cost £11 inclusive of p&p
Frankly if it came to nothing, still handy as a Match striker brick. I'll research the cheap wild ones if they have a use just in case !!
( what would be more covert though, hundreds of panzerhandlampen or hundreds of match striker bricks lol )
