Hi everybody
What type is this gas mask?
I bought them together.
Mixture of GM30 and GM38. The examples with the side fitting are for attaching microphones I believe.
They are a fairly rare variant of the M30 and M38 mask, made for radio operators. The extra port in the side is for the fitting of a microphone. They were mainly used by the Kriegsmarine, in coastal fortifications, but they were used by the other branches of the Wehrmacht as well. A nice find, especially with so many of them in the same box!

Yes, nice instant collector set!
Just need a couple of mic set ups now!
Wow another m38 mask with Mikro-Anschluss , that’s the 2nd one i see.... (i also have one in my collection)
I do have a few Microphones for the Gasmasks, but they are very expensive !!

Just looked better ( i was too exited about the m38 )
These are NOT gasmask with mikro anschlusse, but they have a side attachment for the filter..... i don’t know if these are war time masks.... have to look into that
This is how a mikro anschluss looks like
As you can see the thread for the mike is on the outside, not on the inside

The RL Kenn nummer of RL1-38/3 describes this as an S Maskenkörper, S maske body? So this one is Luftschutz not Heer related.
There is some anecdotal evidence that such masks were for use in either aircraft or armoured vehicles, where an internal clean air system might have been supplied, but I have not seen any photographic evidence to back this up. It would not be for fitting a second filter as two would not fit on simultaneously. Wearing one and leaving the nose section open compromises the mask.
