WW2 German Map Case?

Hi I came across this map case recently and was told that it was possibly an early Wehrmacht item?
Can anyone confirm this or have an alternative suggestion?
I cannot see any markings or stamps anywhere on the case.

To me it looks more like a privately purchased mapcase as worn by french officers during WWII...carrying strap is missing...

I came across this item when searching - the male poppers are the same as my case.
