Hi Wagriff and Pete..have looked over the entire top and bottom and no markings..had a look online for where the markings should be and different types and this looks like a M31 but with no markings Im scratching my head...according to The Joy of Field Rations blog the M31 was based on the WW1 M1910 mess tin but made from ali instead of tin..however tin versions were made during WW2 to save on ali..also to ad to the confusion there were two types available with and without the insert...no markings makes me think some post war eastern euro country maybe..dunno
Im combing my collection for anything I wasn't 100% about..this one stood out
It looks WW1 to me mate..google ww1 mess tin or search the forum here, there are some examples
WW1 Mess Tin - Maker ?
Thanks wizardman,I guess these were most likely used during WW2 as well but maybe not frontline
Hi
Yes these were still used in WW2, also frontline....
There is a nice picture of one strapped on an A-Frame..... If i'm not mistaken it was in a Militaria Magazine...
