Arisaka from a cave

My friend asked me the other day if I liked guns

said his dad was getting rid of his grandfathers gun he brought back from the war. So I went and had a look . My friends dad told me his father told him he took it out of a cave on the islands and sent it home. As long as he has known the gun the burn damage has been on it . The only thing I can think is it got hit with a flame thrower . The bayonet was covered in grease and you cant see it in the photos it still has a lot of bluing left. Gary

Could an oil or grease have gotten on it, like the bayo. Oil will turn wood black, depending on what kind.

Great pickup!!!

The bayonet is one flat slab gripped versions. I'm at work and can't tell you now who made that one, but I'm sure somebody will tell you before I get home. If not, I will chime in again when I look at my book.
My 99 was missing one of the screws for that front barrel band like yours. I only needed 1 but I did find some on ebay for a reasonalbe price. The rear screws are very short screws and you need one for each side. Just a thought!!!!!

Also a pic of the receiver side where the serial # is, will have the series marking on the rifle. So If you want to know what series it is that will give you a time frame for when it was made. It will also tell if that rifle had the mono pod and the AA sites.
