    Default Box of History

When my wife and I bought our house in 2006, it was pretty much cleaned out of everything. When I went into the attic, I found an old box, which was falling apart. Inside the box, stuffed to the brim, were letters, papers, "autograph" books, diaries, death notifications, obituaries, on and on. I glanced through the pile and noticed some papers went as far back as the 1920's, maybe earlier, and were as late as the 1970's and Vietnam, and every period in between, to include WWII and Korea. The box was falling apart so I have stored the pile in a plastic tote box and life got so busy I have almost never looked into it any further; until now. I am posting a picture of the mass of papers and letters as it sits today. I am making it a point to go through the box and discover what information and stories are contained within. I intend to post anything interesting, unusual, informative or fascinating, and any accompanying letters, newspaper clippings or photos. I hope everyone here finds this thread interesting, a little entertaining and somewhat worthwhile. Bear with me as time is limited and new postings may be a little sporadic. Enjoy.

Excellent! Can't wait to see what you find!!

I received one of these recently at the recycling plant... containing items belonging to a soldier on occupation duty in Germany after WWII... there were vintage PlayBoy magazines at the bottom of the box

Lol - a couple of months ago a guy I work with gave me five large boxes
of Playboy magazines. As I went through them, I saw only about a
dozen actual 'Playboy' mags - the others are 'Cherie', 'Penthouse',
'Oui', 'International' and some other obscure editions, all from
    the 60's, 70's and 80's.

He gave them to me because his 4 1/2 year old boy told grandma
he was 'going upstairs to read'. Naturally, he cannot read yet
and they caught him with all the mags spread out and
open on the bedroom floor !

Please post some of the more interesting bits from your
    tote bin Helmetone.........!
    Regards,

    Steve.
