Hi,
The helmet is a civil issue helmet designed by a ministy man called
Solly Zuckerman in 1941, they were used by firewatchers in most of the factories ect. They were also sold to the general public
and the funds went to the war effort. The B.M.B, stamped in th rim is for Briggs motor Bodies, they had the contract for all types of helmets. As a kid i lived near the army surplus area and we would go and nick the helmets and spin them in the Thames, and bomb them with bricks, there are hundreds down by Chiswick bridge. if only we knew.

Yes, a good version of the civil defense helmet. We have three of these in the wardrobe dept of my local dramatics society where my wife is the wardrobe mistress, theres also a generals cap ,not sure which regiment, ill have to get my hands on it.But the most amazing thing ive found there so far is a large trunk with a perspex plate under which there are the words "Lancaster light tools kit tropical"there are other words but i cannot remember what they are but inside there are canvas and metal pockets on the sides the whole thing measures 3foot highx2 1/2foot wide and about 4 foot long , its full of costumes at the moment but not for long.
