It's a damn shame that someone would just throw all of this out to the garbage. It makes me sad what to think has been thrown in to the trash Military wise that's been lost forever because of that. Thank you for saving it from the dump!

Thanks for that Eric ! ( although the photo was taken only about four or five years ago ! )

The case would have been a good way to tell their approximate age. Dark brown
leather was an early type of Ray Ban cover, followed by light tan/beige leather
in the 60's and 70's, and then tan vinyl/plastic. The cases today
    are of black vinyl/plastic............
    Regards,

    Steve.

Too bad about the case. Either way... these aviators are def. not your run of the mill gas-station knock offs.

Can anyone tell me anything about the side caps? What does the red and white piping signify?

Is it just me or does that barrel look an awful lot like the 80cm Dora? From what I know, it is not entirely clear what happened to it at the end of the war.

It looks to be a rail gun. They did send one back to the states.

Agreed, it's a railgun, but it looks an awful lot like the barrel of the DORA 80cm railgun (although it may not be big enough...). I've seen other photos of the remnants of the Dora that were found after the end of hostilities and the location and condition of the barrel look similar.

The fate and sequence of events surrounding the Dora at the end of the war are not entirely clear (how do you lose a 1300 ton gun?) and it would be interesting if this GI was somehow connected to it.

Could be Dora, the end of the barrel looks about right

Now that I`m home, I see they are Ray-Bans, but I believe they are from the 70`s.
This model is called the `Outdoorsman`, with cable arms.............

    Super finds!

The last shirt you show is the much earlier WW1/pre war style pullover pattern. The other are WW2.

    Cheers, Ade.
