    hello

This is my attic find i want to share here.

Three weeks ago i found this helmet in the attic of my grandfathers house while i was working there with my dad. My father told me that he found a german helmet on the attic while he was cleaning there. So i came looking and it was no joke, which i thought it was.

It is a m40 lw sd helmet. It looks it has an SE62 stamp in it, but that is hard to read. It has been untouched for a lot of years. The paint is gone only the two tips of the lw eagle are there. There is an interesting trace of a shrapnel which has gone into the helmet.

The liner, chinstrap and draw cord are original to the helmet. Here are some pictures. It is not a minty one but at least it is untouched and complete with some typical been there look

    regards Erwin

    Hi Erwin
Well no one can argue that its not original

I like the "been there" look, and that one certainly has been there, looks like it took a tremendous knock

    Thanks for sharing

    Hello John

It has an incredible been there look. Unfortunately i will never know the story about how my grandfather got it. It's in good hands for sure

    regards Erwin

    Thanks for the comments.

Dimas it was found on the attic of my grandfathers house a few weeks ago. It was there for almost 65 years and nobody knew it.

Ben maybe one day you find something else.

    regards erwin

Great find there. To bad there isn't some history (story) to go with it. Such as, was the helmet occupied at the time of the shrapnel hit, or did it happen in some other way. All great food for thought.

Unfortunately I will never know, but it's great food for thought for sure. I'm already happy he didn't trow it away

Every time I look at it I like it even more, despite the possible horrible story behind it, it’s a real piece of history.
