My Weekend finds

Article about: This was a great high water mark for me- I bought this from a US Marine, a veteran of WWII & Korea. This was the actual field worn items from WWII. A great soft spoken man from Holyoke,

    Default My Weekend finds

    Hello all,

I usually hit the markets and junk shops- hell just about anywhere I think I can find some interesting bits of history.

I have been doing this for a good few years now and you never know what you are going to find out there....(I mainly focus on WWI & WWII- if I can find American Civil War I'd pick it up but its rather expensive and rare around here).

    Found-
There is a few Modern US Army Items- in plastic bag, a 40'S to 50's US Areonautic first aid kit, a 1957 USN Flight survival flotation vest- with 2 smoker flares (intact), shark chaser, marker dye, whistle - seems to just be missing the flashlights. Also an assortment of WWII to 90's patches so Sterling Silver WWII pins (Rifle), A Pre to WWI OD tin mess cup, dog tag and a Red Cross ditty bag and such.

I mostly hunt for helmets but this was a odd helmet-free day.

    Hello,

Looks like a nice haul. Can we see the bottom of the cup? Is it US marked? Thanks.

    Hello Fred- Thank you.

Sadly no US stamps at all, it has OD paint and I have found "like" cups with US stamps but this is not stamped but it is the same construction sans the stamps.

I paid nothing for it that's why I picked it up.

Newest pick-ups from the weekend hunt- a lot of stuff but I paid nothing for the items seen here, a very inexpensive weekend.

M-1943 Field Jacket (((any one know what the unit patch is?)))
    US Army officer cap WWII
    US Army officer cap 50's
3 assorted US WWII garrison caps
    2 US WWII belts
WWII US Army government Gas Mask
    1 US WWII field pack
    WWI Pouch
50's US CD First Aid kit- fully loaded....crazy stuff
    US Vietnam pouch
US 50's era cold weather Hat
    US 80's canteen & cover
WWII US Canteen, cover and web belt
US WWII Half a mess kit

Unknown US stamped tin plate. Any Ideas?

Nice veteran Spanish German helmet- I just love the look of this piece, I 'm not into Spanish lids but this one just looks great! ((anyone know the Unit?))

Nice haul man! The patch would be the 13th Corps U.S WWII.

    Thanks

XIII corps- interesting history there, since it's a RI formed unit it makes sense I found it close by.

    Thanks for the input!

I'm not going to be able to run out this weekend so I hit the only place open today- nice little haul at a place that is usually pretty sleepy!

A US Army WWII pith helmet

    US Vietnam entrenching tool

Looks to be a US Vietnam era uniform, just missing one collar pin

US OD possibly pre WWI metal pitcher

A Nice WWII German Gas Mask with all the extra lens & even has the gas mask filter cap

US WWII tie down straps with buckles 2x

Older US Navy gear bag with a odd striped long tie? not sure but it looks old. From the USS Eisele (DE-34), an Evarts-class destroyer escort.

2 more modern Military helmets- one for certain is a German Army Bundeswehr with camo cover, the other is a mystery, I bought them together so it was decent package deal.

It was a fun morning as I never ever bought a helmet from this market- it's known more for tools & smalls- today was great, I passed on a WWI/II lid.

The other helmet next to Bundeswehr is Swiss M71 helmet.
    German gasmask is M38.
