Default parachute bag found in a barn in the south of holland

    Hi all,

I have this item already for some time in my collection. It was found in a barn in the Nijmegen aerea. Maybe someone knows more about it?
    Maybe a Market Garden relic?
    Best regards,
    Eric

It looks to be an American para pack of some type .... not a leg bag.

It's dated 1944 (AA/44), and is most likely from Market-Garden.

    Hi Gary,

Someone on another forum told me it was a late war T7 reserve parachute bag. Not sure if this could be part of a Market Garden Display?

    Cheers,
    Eric

    Hi Eric,

It's a T-7 Paratroopers parachute pack minus the 'chute. This type was introduced in 1944 in time for Market Garden and had a diameter of 28 feet. By the time of the operation, all the 'chutes were meant to be in the triple green camoflauge scheme, but in reality only about 50% were delivered in time, so half the troops were dropped under white canopies that made excellent targets for the machine guns below. They were eventually replaced by the much improved t-10 in around 1953.

If your information is correct, then this is a very nice original piece of Market Garden history!

    Regards, Ned.

Looking at it again, that could well be right! As a reserve 'chute it would have been a chest pack with a red pull handle. The red stripe on yours and the two grab handles either end make this a strong possibility. Does it have RESERVE or CHEST PACK stamped on it anywhere?

    Regards, Ned.
