Police are investigating the discovery of a World War One hand grenade at a garage sale in Casino over the weekend.
The 1915 device was on sale for $50.
Police spoke with the owner, who told them the grenade belonged to her grandfather.
Duty officer Matt Kehoe says officers seized the grenade and contacted the bomb squad.
"Bomb experts have confirmed that the device is a genuine grenade from 1915," said Detective Inspector Kehoe.
Police say it is dangerous to sell old weapons to the public.
"The sale of prohibited weapons of this type does carry significant penalties, and can carry a prison sentence of up to 20 years," he said.

Re: WW1 Grenade found at garage sale
I acually had a very close encounter with this same type of grenade. Mills bomb as far as i know. Bought it from a well known guy here in perth W.A. I used to pull the pin and throw it around etc.
One day i met a guy who buys old war stuff , sold it to him. Had a call week later saying it was live and something inside was jammed, coroded. So very lucky i or my mates didnt die!!!!
Will post up a few pics later
