WW1 soldier's bedroom

Hello Folks,

Stumbled on this recent article showing the untouched bedroom of a ww1 french Officer, killed in 1918. What strikes me first, more than the objects preserved themselves, is that this time capsule is a mirror of the grief of this family, but also of millions of others.

very interesting, on a French site, I see theonly problem is with the walls and the paper.
St Cyr Museum would like to have all this, to make the same room. The actual owner don't know what to do, perhaps to give all to his 3 daughters....

I think that it should be given to a museum too, time, moths and dust are not very kind roommates. Didn't thought of the Saint Cyr Museum though, personally I would rather see this room fully reconstructed in the Mémorial de Caen, since it is rather a monument to the futility of wars, rather than a tribute to a military school. Ce n'est peut être pas un avis très partagé sur ce forum.

I find it odd that there is no dust on anything.

Room was cleaned from the day of his death ,until today,in order to keep it "as it",when he was alive.

Absolutely heart breaking tribute from a family to it's patriarch, I found the four pictures quite moving.

Looks like he was a fencer and a lancer, cavalry saber, I think on wall, too.
Nearly 100 years of preservation, pretty wonderful when you consider how many great heroes, stories and their memories are simply lost to time.

Sadly daughters and collections of militaria don't seem to go well together, how many wonderful heirlooms or collections have I bought from daughters just wanting to be rid of it.

That's an incredible shrine and amazing that it has remained that way for almost 100 years. Unfortunately it does appear moths have done some damage. It's nice the current owner has respected the wishes of the original family and hopefully someone or some group comes along with the means to properly preserve it.
