Hi everyone. Im getting a German flag that has many GI signatures on it. There is one date on it that says 5/5/45 that a GI wrote. Could it have been from a concentration camp? Because this was around the time camps were being liberated. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

What kind of flag is it and why are you thinking possible KZ? Any photos? A liberated flag could have endless possibilities for origin-GI's basically just wanted a "Nazi flag" and would grab any one that they saw hanging anywhere they were at at the moment.

Its just a regular nazi flag (the center only). It's the date that makes me wonder because of the date. Is there any way to know if there was a camp liberated that day? I know it's a long shot of it being KZ.

Mathausen was liberated by the 11th Armored Division of the US Third Army on that same date.(May 5,1945)

Do you think it may have been from there? Is there any way to find out what division the names on the flag were?

I would imagine if the names were clear enough, that a person should be able to get some sort of idea as to their unit. But it would not be too easy.

Yes, it would be hard but it's worth a try.

Always worth a shot! When you get the flag, try and decipher as many of the names as you can and post them here. Keep your fingers crossed and you never know.
