    Hi guys,

This is a really weird question, so don't make fun of me.

I was looking around inside one of my German helmets earlier and I found this bit of plant material. Is that wheat? a weed? It certainly seems old. It's a long shot for sure, but it would interesting to find out if it belongs to a plant that is indigenous only to Europe.

Sorry for the strange question, I am an archaeologist at heart and these kinds of things intrigue me.

Has anyone else ever found biological remains inside of something?

    Regards,
    Mo

Not really my field, but 6 row Barley is my first thought, though it might be Wheat. Sorry I can't be more certain on this. I'll ask the wife when she gets back from university, as she is a professor in Environmental archaeology.

    Whatever its just an opinion.

Try it with a little milk Mo, throw in a few blueberries and it might be good for breakfast!

Seriously though, that is a first...never heard of that before. Genuine "barn find", complete with part of the farmer's field!

    Cheers,

    Carl

Thanks for your replies. Jerry, I look forward to hearing your wife's opinion as well.

I was expecting the cereal jokes. haha... I suppose if I was looking for the authentic 'German soldier' experience I could always try a bite.
