I'm considering this...

Looks really good, PC /Mac as well as iPhone/IPad/Android versions...
Anyone else?

Well. Sort of?
As the years have passed, the collection has grown exponentially, and I have gotten to the point where I can no longer remember every piece of kit to the last detail. To counter this "little" problem, I've begun applying "numbers" to every item in a code that is made up of country of origin (E.G: Denmark = DK) and a number from 1- and beyond.
My M23 helmet is labelled: DK-No:1
Then I have made a small database on the computer, (basically a pdf., that get updated regularly. I am not that tech-savy), where I use the search function if, I cannot recall the exact model number and / or specific details.
Thanks for the suggestion! I am downloading this now, the free trial that is... doesn't seem like a bad option at all, price seems ok too.
I used a database software from IBM called SPSS. I used it at my previous job.
But its tantamount to using a nuke on an ant.
Now I use Excel.
The hardest part is deciding on your layout.
adding the collection to the lines can be a pain but I ended up finding things I was looking for, for a while and noticed attributes to items I had never seen when I searched for maker ect
my sheet has my by prices, where I bought it and who from when applicable. You never know when you will need to know who sold you that $4 tinny in 1991.
its also good for insurance, estate purposes.
I've spent the afternoon/evening setting up Recollector and I'm very impressed. Setup all my fields, and now starting to enter my buckle collection... Really impressed so far, and fair point about insurance.
I started out earlier today... seems like an easy to set up thing, just like you said!
I have felt this is a great idea..and also adds to the desire of collectibility giving ones collection another view of study and research. This also adds to the collectors own database. Regards Larry

It is something that I have often thought of doing - but yet something else I have never got around to doing! I know it makes sense, even if it is only to let those tasked with disposing of my collection what they are exactly dealing with when the time comes. Lets face it, many dealers would take someone to the cleaners at the slightest hint of the seller not knowing what they have. Just to maximise their profit of course!
I must admit that when I first saw the Recollector option I wasn't convinced. I list all my items with the relevant details in various Word Docs which up until now I thought was good enough for the job. But today I downloaded the trial version of Recollector and have spent the last hour adding items and modifying fields as I go and I have to say that I am very impressed with it. I don't know what other cataloging programmes are out there so can't compare but this particular option is ideal and once I have loaded up my limit of 25 items (the maximum allowed for the trial option) I will leave it for a week or so and see if anything has corrupted it. If not then I will definitely be buying the full version. I am definitely a convert.
Many (many many) years ago I created an application that was used for cataloguing DVD collections. I have recently been thinking of digging out my source code archives and rebuilding it with a view to storing collections of items, particularly gearing it towards militaria. The source is quite sound, it's really all about the formatting of the fields, and what people need to see.
Are there any other apps like Recollector on the market? I've had a look at it, but the interface puts me off (I work as a developer, and particularly in the field of User Interface design, so I get massively picky )
If there was to be a militaria dedicated app, what sort of fields would you like to see, and how should things be catalogued. Not trying to start an exhaustive list, but if there is interest, it may be a good kick in the pants for me to get started on the code.
