Back in the late 1980's, a West German film crew posed as an East German crew and intervewed men from a Smersh unit that took posession of all the corpses found by the bunker including Hitler's. An autopsy was done and proven to be his by dental records. All of the bodies were buried, dug up and reburied several times. The ex-Smersh men took the news crew to the locations including the final location. In 1971, the corpses were dug up for the final time and all were cremated.
The show is interesting showing ways in which some Germans COULD have escaped to Argentina, but it is all conjecture with no basis on any solid facts.

The counter factual Nazi dystopia thing is in high gear at the moment with the Man in the High Castle series, based on the book I recall at the start of my collecting career, ca. 1962. I have always found the reality of National Socialism and its actual record much more compelling than the what ifs and war and memory and or science fiction
part. The alternate "history" thing has never appealed to me in much of any form, save in the sole aspect of understanding courses of action and realistic other outcomes in times of crisis. I.e. the July crisis in 1914 or why the revolution came in France in 1789 and not in Britain or whatever.
I am a kill joy in this material, and my students suffer much when they step on this particular turd.

Of course, the martyrdom and immortality of Nazis was a large part of the ideology, and the adjustment and adaptation of the ideology in the post 1945 world, as well as the adaptation and adjustment of the other persons in their number is the real story. The Hitler as werwolf and or undead thingy is what it is, and grist for the mills of such persons who, in their way, are more or less identical to the kooks and freaks in Vienna ca. 1880 or 1900 who got the whole ball of wax rolling in the first place.

Having recently acquired this item, as well as having been on the Danube for a goodly chunk of time, I have been thinking of the martyrdom aspect with some energy.

I watched the first episode to see how crazy it would be. The set up was basic and they had bob bier who is ex cia- who is pretty respected but now he mainly hangs out on the news helping them bloviate. This dude was crawling around in Beirut trying to find the barracks bombers so hes not just a poser, just making money in retirement. anyway it is kinda funny.

they go to the "area which white people used to live in etc" in the middile of know where"

They have "experts there" and when they ask questions about a building or local history they almost badger these poor people here is an honest to god example

expert" so you think the 20 X40 foot basement below the floor of this house could have stored hitler and years of supplies"
Local " well it is a basement:..... cut of by expert

Expert THAT IS HUGE could have stored gold, communication equip...blah blah"

The local stands there and nods and smiles he knows hes going to get a few bucks.

I can have any assertion or have a debate where I can get cut off in real life, its called my parents house

It is a pretty big waste of time in my opinion. 7th grade history project is a better result

I think he went down with his ship. I think that he would have considered
those trying to escape Berlin as cowards.
Agreed. I think the bloke was a tosser but I also think the thought of seeing everything collapse around him would have been too humiliating for his megalomanic personality. I'd still watch the TV show if it gets to Oz though, purely for the entertainment of it, not because I believe it.

Actually, he's hiding in Minehead (sorry, Meinhead). But don't tell anybody.
