I can apreciate the craftmanship, but personally I prefer my stocks plain.

the stock is for a marlin model 60 .22 I like working on the model 60's they are very common and not expensive. I only started carving wood about a year ago. I know how rough textured the stock looks but you would be surprised how it feels in hand. you really don't notice it as much as you think you would. these are more of an art project for me. my son's like them a lot. as far as I know i'm the only one doing this kind of full stock carving. its not for every ones taste, but then nothing is. we all like different things. it's just something i'm finding a lot of pleasure in doing.

...and that is what counts the most.

Thanks Eric and Scout. I have run out of marlin model 60's to work on for the moment. but I picked up a Japanese made .22 kids rifle, made by an air gun company. i'm thinking a full stock cherry blossom carving on it, as a first rifle for my grand daughter, lol she will be 2 in july and have 3 guns for her already lol. a full carved western floral marlin .22 the Japanese .22 and a nice Beretta .32 so far. i can only hope she will like them. here are the others i have done.

You are very good with your hands and do good work - thats clear to see.

A cherry blossom for a Japanese rifle - that would suit it well.

I look forward to seeing that one.

I think I would drop dead if I saw carvings like this on a World War II rifle...

BUT, I think they look great on commercial hunting rifles. What a classy way to customize and add grip/ lighten the rifle!
