    My guess is that the one he bought before was a good one and that he just got a little paranoid...

    Hmm. Those Kriegsverdienstkreuz are a bugger for all having the same date. I'm surprised no-one has picked up on this before.

    Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

    The 1940 thru 1945 dated crosses are extremely rare. Another reason why a basic reference library is a must. That has to be the dumbest post I have seen in a very long time.

    He should collect EK`s,he would have a choice of 1914 or 1939.

    1939 is the year of institution of the war merit cross so that's where the date come's from. Produced till 1945 has nothing to do with the medal design

    Thinking about it, it would actually be really cool if the Germans would have dated their awards by the actual year that they were issued.

    The lesson learned: KVKs dated 1939 are widely faked; so it's better to stick to the 1940 - 1945 ones, which are guaranteed to be authentic. Get them now... and pay for them with some three dollar bills.
