It reminds me of a UK tour I did with 3 friends back in 1977.As we were travelling light and by train we choose to wear camo, because of the many and big pockets, but i can assure you it was no fashion back then and when staying at YMCA's, we were not realy accepted!!

One of my favorites is a USMC M43 jacket. I've never worn a jacket more comfortable than that, and it was only 5 dollars! A bit messed up though, so not really worth anything according to some...

EDIT: I also love British DPM 4-pocket jackets. They are amazing.

Ever since i got into military history, the uniforms of soldiers has always fascinated me, which explains how i started collecting mostly jackets.

Now, as a starting collector, i have a question: Do any of you wear any of your collection?

Generally, i buy cheaper surplus, in my size if i can. My rule of thumb is that any clothing item under 30ish dollars should be acceptable to wear/repair, since they are common enough not to be wasteful. Anything I find uncommon or expensive, however, is usually kept for display.

Is this a wrong mindset? Should everything be left as it is found, or is it acceptable to mend/wash uniform items for personal use?

Especially when there's a skid-mark in them, that's the type of 'patination' you don't really want.

And No, I don't wear them, but I do, however, like to smell them sometimes. :/
Aaahh... the alluring scent of history..
