For a war/action film covering an earlier period, you can't go past the visual splendour of 'Last Of The Mohicans' with Daniel Day Lewis as Hawkeye.

I must agree, great film, as for WW2 I like 'The Train' starring Burt Lancaster.

[QUOTE=slados28;1077949]I'd like to add When Trumpets Fade to my list of favourite war movies. Produced for TV so perhaps not the best production values and/or acting but its take on the Hürtgen Forest battle as seen from the allied perspective is quite unique and refreshing...
I had totally forgotten that movie

"They do not live their lives "by your leave"! They hack it out of the wilderness with their own two hands, burying their children along the way!"

A truly great movie. Good pick Lithgow.

Good to see "Glory" in your list Nick. A ripper also mate.

My Fav at present would be "Kokoda" (39th battalion in the UK, USA). I like it as it show's the Australian character of that period.

    Cheers
