Every once in a while I have a trawl through this magnificent resource as I did earlier today. It compliments this forum perfectly as a number of the pictures on there have reminded of posts I've recently read here.

Like the following shots of Panther tracks, the famous Otto Funk of 12th SS (I've heard that's him in the middle of the three EK winners), late-war experimental stahlhelms (are they?), Bren used by a German and Tiger near Leningrad.

    The helmets are actually Czech.

I agree it is a super site.

    Cheers, Ade.

I did not know Otto Funk was famous! What did he do? I tried to research him, but could find out nothing. I have attached a signed foto of him.

The photo from the Arkiv isn't Otto.

Otoo was a Schutze with SS Panz Gren Rgt 25 in Normandy , he is famous as a series of photos were taken off him on 9/6/44 in Normandy which featured on the fromt page of the Stuttgarter Illustrierte

I apologise for any mistakes in my post - this is always a risk for an amateur in such professional company. However, we can all learn from the corrections. I now appreciate the picture from April 1945 features Czech helmets but would ask why that is so - I assume the troops are German.

The Otto Funk response is informative as I know people on here have been in touch with him and are so hugely more knowledgeable than me. Funk is of course famous for his (attached) iconic and surly appearance in the quoted sequence of pictures from La Villeneuve in June 1944 by kriegsberichter Wilfried Woscidlo.

Hi Stewfoxy, the guys wearing the Czech helmets are not actually German: look at the greatcoats they are wearing: they are devoid of shoulder straps like on a German issue coat. They are most likely Slovak forces who fought with the Germans.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Thanks Ade.

Having checked the caption to the machine gunners picture it does indeed state they're equipped with Czech helmets. It goes on to say the men are Volkssturm fighting in Silesia at the beginning of April 1945. Breslau possibly?
