Is this a good way to store photos/letters?

So long as the plastic envelopes are acid free and archive quality I can't see a problem with storing them like this mate.

I've been buying archival sleeves at Hobby Lobby for my photos. You can get a number of sizes and sleeves with pockets there for your various storage needs, if you have one nearby. Don't forget to go to the HL website to see if they have a 40% off coupon.
