1914-1918 Belgian Croix de Guerre, a medal for bravery, from what I could find. Hopefully someone else could chime in if this is wrong.
Yes I think that is right. Often given to decorated allied soldiers on the Western Front in WWI but not certain of the age of this example.

It is indeed a WW1 Belgian Croix de Guerre. The WW2 examples have a slightly different ribbon.
