The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

    1st July 1916

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Much appreciated for the responses! Your suggestions are very helpful! As true militaria shops are not as out in the open as one would hope, the information is very much appreciated. We'll definitely be headed to the "Topography of Terror" exhibit, which is the Gestapo HQ on Prince-Albrecht Strasse. Many thanks to all who responded!
I had an internship with the Berlin Unterwelten about 2 years ago, so we'll definitely be taking advantage of their tours and experiences offered. I only heard about the Lichterfelde Barracks recently, so thank you very much for the info. We're going to see if we can sneak into Templhof, as I managed to about 2 years ago (which resulted in a good 30 minutes of exploration of absolute dizzying Nazi architecture, until we were escorted off the premises....)

Mat(Toxicgas) and I are enjoying ourselves very much, and are very content that we're in a city of so much history with a fellow collector and appreciator of such historical significance.

All you help is very much appreciated, and we'll keep this thread updated!

If you ask for directions to Lichterfelde Barracks and you get a blank stare ask for Andrews barracks. Renamed by the U.S. forces when they billeted there.

I have just returned home from Berlin and Warsaw. Hence my absence from the forum for the past 12 days. Love the place.

    Cheers, Ade.
