This last image of the blinded soldier is so poignant . i wasnt aware until now of this image . thanks for posting !

I think another indisputable great is Max Alperts Soviet Commander urging his men forwards. It came to symbolise the resistance of Soviet Russia. I believe the commander was killed a little after this photo was taken .

One of the most iconic Australian images of the Second World War must be this one
"The Dancing man"

The still is part of a section of film and was taken in Elizabeth Street, Sydney on the 15th August 1945" as "the Dancing Man" celebrated the news of the end of World War II.

There is a little bit of debate as to whom this gentleman was as a number of people claim it was them.
It was such an iconic image in this country the government struck a one dollar coin of "the Dancing man" as part of a series commemorating the 50 year anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

I have always wondered the same thing, A bloody good excuse for a few beers for sure.

The Damien Parer image of the 39th boy's at Menari would have to be my fav WW2 photo with-out doubt.
Ralph Honner is my hero and always will be.

The second flag raising on Iwo Jima was not redone for the cameras. The first flag was too small to be seen by everyone. A larger flag was then raised. No "political correctness" back then. We were proud of who we were and not afraid to show it.

This image of the fallen soldier at the Brandenburg gate has always stuck in my mind.
