The John Pedersen device!!!!!!

Any one here ever heard or seen this incredible invention?unfortunately it was implemented too late to see service during ww1.John Pedersen was described by John Moses Browning as simply the greatest Gun designer in the world.his device was designed to be fitted on a standard 1903 springfield 30-06 with slight alteration to calibrate a 40 round magazine with which it could fire 2 mags a minute.can you imagine a rifle with that sort of delivery ratio,this is a very scarce item does anyone here own one?if so would be great to see it,or are there none left or just in a museum perhaps...............Jake.

Yep.... Seen a few of these over the years. Had a MKI rifle with the cut out for a while. They are a little pricy when you come across one that is complete.

Yes, its quite well known in historical gun geek circles.
An innovative but ultimately dead end invention.

Was also intended to be used with the US made Nagant m/91 rifle that became an unintended US service type as a result of shortages during WW1-the idea was novel but not very practical as carrying the device and ammo plus fitting and unfitting it was never going to be easy under operational field conditions-the future was going to be with dedicated SMGs like John Thompson's 'Trench Broom'.

These are just about the holy grail for WW1 weapons. I would love to see a live fire demonstration of one of these.

This is as close as I ever got to one, a cartridge for the Pedersen Device, next to a 1918 dated .30-06. The nickel colored round behind them is a .30-40 Krag blank with a paper "bullet"

Just a note.
The US used nagent was supplied to the troops that were assigned to the Northern Russian Expidition after the Armistice because of supply problems of ammo and parts to that area. It was not used by any other AEF units. There was never any shortage of 03s and enfields.

The US was severely short on service rifles upon entry late into WW1 in 1917-all sorts of obsolete or locally made 'foreign' arms were pressed into service for training and indeed rear echelon use-the French Lebel M1886 was issued to Black support units in France-the fact that the Enfield M1917 was the primary rifle used by the AEF was itself unintended as there was no way of producing anything like the required number of Springfield M1903s in the short time available for the new mass army that was raised. Perhaps the oddest type used were the Canadian made Ross MkIIs in .303 that were surplus to Canuck needs and indeed a poor service rifle to begin with but at least were available in 1917.
