    Have just learned of the sad passing of US Staff/Sergeant Walter D.Ehlers.the last Normandy MOH recipient.Walter as squad leader on 6th june went ashore 2nd wave 18th regiment 1st Infantry.his actions on the 8/9 june at Goville earned him the MOH,which was recieved on the 19th december 1944,on the 14th july 1944 walter learned over a month after D-Day that his brother Roland had been KIA on that faithful day.Walter also recieved the silver star and 3 purple hearts.another one of the Greatest generation has gone forever and its down to us to keep Walters and all others memories alive.R.I.P Walter.1921-2014.

    I had the chance to meet him a number of times back in Normandy.
    Very nice guy.
    He was a good friend of my father.
    He would attend the ceremonies at the Normandy American cemetery.
    His picture is on my dad office
    Sad news.
