As I'vewalkoed trough the town sometimes- I've discovered a lot of old and nice abandoned buildings, I think this rich town was abandoned mostly in 1945 year before the Socialist regime comes. A lot of hidden objects was found in the past, and I think a lot of them is still closed under the layer of the dust and sand on the attics. As a pre war population of this town was a bigger pre war than now.
Take a look at the untouched look and some bomb damages on the walls. Even in Halle I've discovered one war time destroyed factory, but unfortunately I lost the pictures

Great shots, especially like the interiors. Probably many more across Europe yet to be brought to light. I was in Berlin and saw many buildings in sections of the city still showing war damage. Thank you for the photos. John

I stayed in berlin in 2000 and there was much shell-splinter damage in that neighborhood (near the Wall) and many others, too -

the building I was in still had coal brought by a man in a cart and dumped in the old coal 'chute by the sidewalk! bizarre to see old world, pre-war structures with war damage ... and shiny spotless modern cars on the streets outside them! a real time-warp sensation.

also the university of munich on the leopoldstr. has bullet and shell damage. I hope it's always there. speaking of which I'm sorry the frauenkirche was rebuilt. reminders are valuable things......

    thanks for the fine pix!

Dimas, great pics--it almost looks frozen in time (1945).

I believe this was the General who surrendered Leipzig:
