When my wife Lez ("Larissa" here on the forum) was in the WRAC at Donnington depot, one of her jobs to to dust the metal used for the VC's. It was mounted on a stand of three crossed rifles.

Lez says that is indeed it. She says she just used to flick the duster at it, as she was scared to touch it!
