Whateverits just an opinion.
Practically everyday now there are celebrations along the
route for Market Garden and the towns and villages around.
A base-camp is now at Veghel where the route will be
continued in the coming days, along with many wartime vehicles,
into the direction of Grave.
Here a note from the Eindhovens Dagblad-newspaper
about a big welcome at Son where some old veterans
looked at the building of a Bailey-bridge:

The local newspaper everyday has articles in the series:
Weg naar de Bevrijding (Road to liberation), as well as
articles about what people rememberred when they were liberated.
History repeats when children welcome the convoy at Mierlo-Hout,
a part of my hometown city (Helmond)! And a story of a guy, who remembers
the smell of chocolate!

As a vet (no, not a wartime vet, but a vet that was active during his time 1961/1962)
I will attend the special ceremony for the killed soldiers at a chapel in the afternoon,
September 25th. at my hometown Helmond.
Note my one-of-a-kind special patch, handembroidered. There does not exist a second one!
(Nuns did the job for me, many years ago on my special design).

Again some "setting the tone"-images about the many celebrations about Market Garden in our province.
Also at Oosterbeek there were ceremonies.
At Grave American paratroopers (with modern helicopters and equipment), liberated the bridge there.
All the rest all over was again routes with old vehicles and visits of foreign vets, that actually were there in 1944.
In schools vets and members from Dutch resistance told about what happened in those days. Or stories
from old people what they remembered from the liberation.

Lichtjesroute: 22 kilometers vol nostalgie (a tour of nostalgia).
Eindhoven, which is nearby, remembered yesterday they were liberated.
Since many years a "light-route" exists, which was "founded" in honor of
their liberation. In 1984 it was again re-instituted and is a wonderful event
through the city with a length of about 22 km. It is open for a period of
about a few weeks, every day between 20.00-24.00 hours and one can ride
the route by car or bike and occasionally with special busses.

September 19, 1944 the Germans bombed Eindhoven. 177 inhabitants were killed.
This put a damper on the joy of liberation.

Still there are many celebrations all over the our province (Noord-Brabant), tours with old
WWII vehicles and other things:

At Groesbeek landed 300 hundred US paratroopers from the 82th Airborne Division, to celebrate
the liberation there. There is a good museum, as there are more around in this area as for example
at Oosterbeek (Airborne Museum 'Hartenstein'), Overloon (Nationaal Oorlogs- en Verzetsmuseum)
and Best/Son (Bevrijdende Vleugels).

I have been along part of the route a few times, I was very Surprised How many Canadian CANLOAN Officers were attached to the British Airbourn Div. And how many Died.

As the days before: books are being released, vets - coming over from the USA, Canada
and United Kingom - speak with children at schools, festivities and celebrations were held
or will be held this weekend and announced in the newspapers:

Today, Saturday. early this morning the tour with old vehicles was continued. They expect some
hundreds of thousands spectators. Much photos will be taken and films made.
Or stories from people how they remembered the liberation:
Frank Mugglestone from Leicester in 1944. A postcard with greetings and the saying
"Goedverdoeme bloempot", which he had learned: Goddamned flowerpot!
Or parts from the diary from Flip Bastion, 12 years old who took part, making music
during the route, sitting on an old American Dodge from 1942, seventy years later.

There is simply too much to show it all.
With post 15 I told about the "Lichtjesroute", an about 22 km long route through the city of Eindhoven
where along the Streets ornaments and decorations with light-bulbs and leds give a special sphere,
visited every year by thousands in the evenings. All kinds of ornaments are to be seen, as the "V" for
Victory, liberations-torches, the eagle from the 101st Airborne Division and so on. For those living nearby:
between 19.00-22.00 from Sunday through Thursday; and Friday and Saturday until 23.30 uur
For the 70 years of celebration of the liberation special decorations were developed, to be seen at the
Veldmaarschalk Montgomerylaan: portraits from Eisenhower and Montgomery with in between the line:

How far can one go??
On Sunday before the football-match in the PSV-stadium at Eindhoven,
in rememberance of the liberation and in honor for the paratroopers,
some paratroopers jumped and landed upon the centre spot.

Many more celebrations were held in the weekend. Just a random choice:
Forces crossed the Waal-river, to remember what happened in 1944.
Some old vets crossed again with them. One of them was 97 years old,
James Megellas, who visited the country for the liberation ceremonies.

At Driel our King Willem-Alexander, along with the Polish president Komorowski,
was present to lay a garland for the fallen Polish liberators at the Polish monument.
Twelve 90 years old Polish liberartors (or older) were present - one even laying in a bed -
and all got a big applaus. "Rehabilitation" for the paratroopers brigade, which landed
at Driel 21 of September 1944.
