Appeal for help as poppies planted at Penketh Library go missing | Warrington Guardian

"A DISPLAY of ceramic poppies have gone on display at Penketh Library – but two have already gone missing. The artwork was added to the front of library on Sunday after work from more than 30 people.

But two went missing on Monday and the library is asking for their safe return.

The poppies have been created to mark the 100th anniversary since the Armistice was called in 1918.

They were produced at the Potters House in Penketh.
Geraldine and Alan Snape set up the gallery and workshop more than 30 years ago, producing ceramics and paintings as well as running pottery and painting classes for the community.

Young and old combined to create the poppies.

The display also includes plaques marking the names of some of the fallen soldiers from Penketh and Great Sankey during the First World War."

I can only hope that it was young children who know no better who took the poppies. The library is about a 10 minute walk from where i live.

If they are unguarded, outside a public library, it is (tragically), unsurprising.
Two missing is a lot better than what might have happened.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole lot were vandalised.

    You are sadly right, Paul.
Among a still small number, nothing is sacred.

One can only hope they are returned, or karma kicks in.

    All the best,
    Bob

The local branch of the Royal British Legion has attached large plastic poppies to all of our town's streetlights. It only took a couple of days for one or two to 'go missing'. It seems that common respect is not at all common these days, even for those who paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we now enjoy.

The thing is, it was different not all that long ago. Now it seems a day does not pass where something isn't broken or vandalised for the hell of it.

Soldiers died so that some dim wit could come along and disrespect their sacrifices.
    Utterly unacceptable.

The tragedy is that such things have to be considered.
To leave anything unguarded and open to all is, frankly, asking for trouble.
There will always be w*nkers, the feeble-minded, to whom vandalism is a fleeting pleasure, with no reason or statement - just like kicking a can down a street.
A spot of National Service would sort ‘em out. In every country that has abolished it, the crime rate has made a notable rise within a generation...

It’s routinely blamed on boredom, but when we got bored as kids, we just found or made something to do.

The vast majority will look, admire and think.
    It just takes one.
