Otto Sander dies aged 72.
The actor who played Kapitänleutnant Philipp Thomsen in the famous 1981 film 'Das Boot' died last week at the age of 72.
Otto Sander was best known for his portrayal in the film of the drunk and newly decorated Ritterkreuzträger and U-Boat commander Philipp Thomsen.

He was a great actor and one of the reasons I became interested in WWII. When I was about nine or ten years old, my grandpa played The film, Das Boot for me. An early favorite of mine, indeed.
There seems to have been a lot of death around lately...Amen.
