I also watch the show on a regular basis. They do not like to buy 3rd Reich material. However, they do buy all forms of swords and old firearms. The opening credits show a Japanese katana. The store is located in Las Vegas where I am quite sure the overhead is high. The shop is always open and must have a considerable overhead. Paying 50% of an estimated top price is not unreasonable as their money is tied up until the right person walks through the door to lay down cash. There is also no guarantee they will attain a 100% profit. WhAt they pay is based upon business. They are not collectors.

I see the programme most of the time and i end up screaming at the TV, theres the old man, asleep half the time, the son a money grabbing opportunist his son a lazy bigger replica of his father but with less business sense than a one celled primordial piece of jelly, and his mate ,another throwback to planet of the apes, theres making money and theres ripping people off, even when an "expert" is called in and he gives a reasonable price for an item, say $4000, when he goes the guy says what are you asking for it, even when a person says half of that amount, knowing that they have to make a profit, the guys says he can only give $800-$1000, that is rip off big time, im really pleased when the seller says ill keep it or i ll put it up for auction, it pisses the guy off so much but he has to make it look as if he made the right decision, its typical TV hype thats getting rather boring, as for here in the UK , we do have something similar to Pickers , they are called House clearance operators, theres a guy just round the corner from me who does it, pays peanuts for really good TR items , asks me about them ,then trys to sell them TO ME, and tries to get full asking prices, he got a shock two weeks ago, when i presented him a bill for consulting fees, i wasnt serious but he didnt know that, havent seen him since, but hes still ripping people off from both ends, rant over

I love the show but i agree that these guys are ripping off people. On the other hand it's not done by the force of gun on the head. People agree to their unreasonable offers so it's both parties fault. I like it too when potential sellers say ''no it's too low, i'll keep it or look elsewhere''. Unfortunately sometimes people who are in urgent need of money go there and think that they don't have another choice, for a quick sale and agree getting ripped off.

Hello-I haven't seen either show but as the 'Pawn Stars' show is filmed in Las Vegas one would think that most of the customers would either be degenerate gamblers or caught up in the real estate disaster there-here in Australia the govt financed TV station network ABC (Aust Broadcasting Corp.) has a programme called 'Collectors' that deals with all types of collections occaissionally incl militaria, weapons, vehicles etc-what amazes me about it is the dedication and passion that people have for the things that are important to them even if I don't fully appreciate what it is they collect eg objects made of a particular shade of orange plastic!

I watch both pawn stars and American Pickers and I agree both shows come up with nice stuff. Both shows at times make me shake my head. The episode on American pickers where they pick the Japanese helmet did Piss me off. first they asked the lady if she had any military items .and when he pulls down the Japanese helmet he does the old wow I don't know what this is look at the star it think its American B S . Then he gives her next to nothing for it . After they do the pick they show what they bought and what it is worth funny thing is they don't show the helmet because they know they stole it. Then on the pawn stars if your dumb enough to take half of what its worth then thats on you. At least the pawn stars tell you what they think its worth. Gary

On the money davejb! rip offs they are! You yanked the HCO guys chain pretty good! Way ta go! America restoration is the better of them all. Real talent is involved. They are pretty much up front with the labor and time and such $ involved and I would like to see some WW2 items etc. on their show. They do some real FANTASTIC work! Ron
