RAF Tornado jet crash: One dead and two missing, feared dead

Thoughts are with the friends, family and collegues of the RAF Tornado aircrew involved in this terrible accident.

Very sad to read that one of the rescued crew has now died in hospital and both crew from the second aircraft are still missing. It is reported that it is no longer a rescue mission but has entered the recovery phase.

A cruel twist of fate, especially if both crews have seen combat and returned unscathed, none the less a tragic accident

Two Tornados from RAF LOSSIEMOUTH, in Scotland crashed in the sea off the coast of Scotland, two crew members were rescued by lifeboat, both in serious condition, one has since died, the other remains critical but in a stable condition, the other two crew members from the second aircraft have not been found and the search has been called off due the bad weather , apparently it has now been re-assigned as a recovery mission with little hope of survivors

Two Tornado GR4s from RAF Lossiemouth, in north east Scotland, on a low level training mission, came down south of Wick on Tuesday afternoon. It is believed that they had a mid-air collision

The crew of one of the aircraft involved ejected and they were airlifted to hospital, but one has subsequently died, and other is in a serious condition. The crewmember from the second aircraft remain missing and the rescue operation for them has been called off.

Defence Secretary Philip Hammond paid tribute to the men in a statement to the House of Commons. He said: "I am sure the House will wish to join me in paying tribute to the Crew from 15 (Reserve) Squadron, based at RAF Lossiemouth, who were involved in the Tornado GR4 aircraft incident on Tuesday; Flight Lieutenant Hywel Poole who was killed, and Squadron Leader Samuel Bailey and Flight Lieutenant Adam Sanders who are still missing and must be presumed dead

Strange that theres no mention of the surviving crew member, or did he later go on to say about him
