I took a train to the beach-town Zandvoort and checked out a few of the Atlantic Wall Bunkers there...
The train runs from Amsterdam every 30 minutes...You can go swimming too!

Ann Frank's house is a must although the queue tends to be huge so get there early or book up for a tour.

Away from the history, the flea markets are good for a nose around.

Not being a native of Amsterdam I'm afraid I don't know the names of them but on a Sunday they are everywhere, from art related ones to the more usual flea market bric-a-brac types. Maybe someone more familiar with the city can identify these locations that have flea markets, the first one having an art related one. We just left the hotel and went for a walk and there were so many to choose from that we couldn't spend time at them all. There is one just around the corner from the main train station which is supposed to be good (and is listed on th tourist maps)...

You don't need directions for that - just follow all the Stag parties (and Hen parties for that matter!) : D

I notice that's where the 'town bikes' appear to congregate.....

We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course, and the end cannot be far.

It is a pity that Amsterdam is far away from most of the nice war-museums,
which are most situated in the south of the Netherlands: Best/Son, Overloon,
Groesbeek, Oosterbeek etc., and a new one: eyewitness at Beek.

I think my friend "hobbybob" does not mind showing some of his beauty-photos
from Beek. He made lots of them the day we visited there!
