That is truly sad. I've been a fan of Ghostbusters since a child.

His also directed some of the most iconic comedies in history, including one of my all-time favorites: Groundhog Day.

One of my favorites too for sure. I never knew that he directed that.

Sure did. He played a small bit part as a doctor in it, too.

Love Groundhog Day, but for me his finest hour will always be Ghostbusters. His character Dr. Egon Spengler - with his quiet intellect, bone-dry humor and deadpan delivery - was always by far my favorite character in the film. When asked about my hobbies, I still like to quote his immortal line "I collect spores, molds and fungus". (Or more precisely, the German equivalent into which the line was dubbed over here: "Ich sammle Grünspan, Sporen und Schimmelpilze.")

I saw the film at its theatrical release way back when I was 14; later it became the very first film on VHS cassette that I bought. (Still own that cassette, although I don't have a vCR anymore; naturally, by now I have the film on disc as well. Guess you can tell I've watched it more than once over the past 29 years.)

    But enough of my ramblings.

Sad to hear about the passing of someone who had made us laugh.
