    How can one ascertain the fair market value of an item,say a badge,that is so rare that it rarely trades on the open market?

    Possibly by finding one that has been traded on the marker before and adding some appreciation value to it ?

    Post it and ask for opinions.

    FWIW - There are rare items that don't command a premium value because many are unfamiliar with them and chase more commonly known items. High end collectors often may be the only ones who consider rare items and set the market value.

    Hard telling without knowing more about the item.

    On extremely rare items, price will be determined by the number of buyers and what they want to pay. In hard times, we can't eat this stuff so the value would be determined by the buyer's disposable income. The higher the price goes up, the number of buyers decreases.

    I have a old rare car, and i want to know what it is worth. I only know it has 4 wheels. Whats the value??
