Have there not been mixed opinons about this for some time ??? Some Daily Mail reporter got nothing better to write about? Lets knock another national hero shall we...
An interesting article Adrian, thank you for posting it. The mark of respect shown by the Germans, who even allowed a prosthetic limb to be dropped for Bader after he was captured, speaks volumes as to the recognition he deserves. They all deserve it though, every last one of them.
Regards,
Carl
Wasn't it during the Battle of Britain that this changed? with the advent of the Polish flying aces that showed how it was done. IMHO.

Read into it what you will, I'll have to try and catch the series on TV as I had no idea it was on.

His 'Big Wing' tactic has been discussed for as log as I can remember. Personally I have never regarded him as a Battle of Britain hero

There will ALWAYS be contrary opinions on ANY subject and despite this decorated nonagenarian's opinion 70 years later, the Big Wing strategy was a case of the "greater good"
( one always has to wonder if the Mail quoted verbatim or spiced up the old boys words a bit to sell the story .... TROLLS can be also in the most obvious places! )

It's written into the history books and right or wrong the Battle of Britain was won so I guess it really doesn't make much difference now except to those who want to find something wrong in everything.......
