Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Great footage Stinch I must visit it sometime!
I was lucky enough to walk inside the Birkenhead Uboat before it was butchered !
Before and after pics :
"In all my years as a soldier, I have never seen men fight so hard." - SS Obergruppenfuhrer Wilhelm Bittrich - Arnhem
He was just 16 when he joined the Kriegsmarine, and by the age of 22 he had been awarded the RK. Quite a man you met there Paul.
Regarding age, the youngest commander of U-Boot was Ludwig-Ferdinand von Friedeburg (U-155), then Kurt Braun (U-763). Both were 20 years of age, Braun almost 21. Hans-Georg Hess was the fourth youngest. At the other end of the scale, Kpt.Bruno Mahn (UD-5) was the oldest at 54, then Walter Burghagen (U-219) at 52 years. Interesting is the fact that of all the U-Boat commanders, only 14 were aged 40 or above.

Carl
