what is the oldest item you have in your collection?

Article about: I too have a small collection of fossils etc. But in terms of militaria the oldest item I have is probably a Napoleonic era British Artillery button that came in a box of odds at auction. Th

    My grandfather was in World War 1 and he had this artillery shell that he used as a doorstop. Inside of it was a canvas bag rolled up with those small round lead (?) balls that I assume are shrapnel.

    My item isn't military (it is kinda as my Great Grandad acquired in the trenches)it is a 1871 prayer book
    I have no pictures yet its in my display case with my great grandads original ww1 medals. (one isnt original its just to complete the pip squeak and Wilfred collection of medals)

    My oldest items of militaria would have to be these brass handled weapons:

    A French Model 1855 foot officers sabre

    A US Colt Alteration Mississippi Rifle Sabre Bayonet - Dated 1861

    A French chassepot bayonet 1868

    Very nice French sabre. Are there any markings on it? Could we get a closer view of the handguard?

    Many thanks. Yes there is a 'Manuf re Nlle de Chatellerault' on the spine of the blade and 'S. Hoppe FILs Solingen' and a what I believe is a beehive mark.
