    Very true.

I know the author of the book I just posted. We had Christmas dinner
together and we talked a bit about his experiences and our shared
struggle with family, loss and PTSD.

I just finished "Scorched Earth, Black Snow", by Andrew Salmond, an account of the Commonwealth 27th Infantry Brigade's service in Korea, 1950. The Brigade consisted of battalions of the Middlesex Regt., and Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, later joined by the 3rd Royal Australian Regt.
The book also covers the saga of 41 Commando Royal Marines, in the Chosin Reservoir action.
A compelling read , on an often overlooked subject.

I am also about 2/3rd's through "Luftwaffe Fighters & Bombers: Battle of Britain", by Chris Goss.
It contains a wealth of first hand accounts by mainly Luftwaffe, along with some RAF participants, in the BoB. The author also includes a short running commentary on the course of the battle itself.
Highly recommended for anyone with a serious interest in the Battle of Britain.

Have started to read Touched With Fire by Eric Bergerud (published 1997) which covers the land war in the South West Pacific. It spans the period from Guadalcanal to Tarawa and as well as the American actions it also covers the Australian experience of the fighting in a fair and balanced way.
Explains in detail the different effects the diverse terrain and climate had on combatants as well as the actual fighting. The narrative is interspersed with first hand accounts from soldiers of American and Australian forces.
It is a very readable book.

I read this book probably over 10 years ago, and enjoyed it very much.
