Steve, if you liked the Bill Mauldin books....you may like this one: Joe Farris' "A soldiers Sketchbook". He kept his diaries/letters home and compiled them. In them, he would do cartoons/drawings, later becoming the Cartoonist for the famous "New Yorker".

It's a "Letters Home" type of read...but they are not boring at all! Whats cool is that he comments on the letters from today's prespective.....recalling things from the incidents in the letters. Not finished it yet, but its been interesting so far!
