    Default Vietnam 2014

Was recently in Vietnam on vacation but never got to download the pictures. For those of you who have never been there, here are some pictures.....

EDIT: An amazing country. Fantastic food, the people were friendly and the scenery was beautiful. These were all taken in North Vietnam. The ladies were at their college graduation ceremony. The pictures in the city are from Hanoi and the pictures in the countryside/water are at or around Ha Long Bay.

Nice Mosin Nagant, are they still pretty cheap in the states?...

More expensive than they used to be - days of getting them for $79 or $89 are gone. You can find them on sale some times for $150 or so, normally getting closer to $200. This was the day before shooting my Finn M39.

One of my cousins lives in PA, a little place called Clearfield near State College, he bought a Mosin about 10 years ago for $80. A lot of rifle for the money!...

    Thanks Michael,
I have never been there----in fact, I spent a year or so in my youth praying I would not be sent there.

I know. To many people that was a serious concern. My late Brother in Law did three tours if I remember correctly and was a tunnel rat (so I was told). He never spoke about it.

But this is not the Vietnam of the 60's and 70's. It has moved on and mostly in a more positive way. All countries have their pros/cons. As for Vietnam...it is still poor, it is still a Socialist single party state, there is still corruption (our driver got pulled over by the police for speeding...don't think we were going more than 30 mph) but the people are generally kind, hard working, curious about the world beyond their borders, trying to make a better life for themselves and have definitely been bitten by the capitalist bug...plus the food and scenery are fantastic. I preferred my trip to Cambodia 2 years earlier (which is much poorer and less developed) but this was still one to remember.

My wife and I make a point when we go on vacation to visit countries, not resorts. We use it as a learning / teaching tool for our two boys to learn about other cultures and how lucky they are to have, just by fate, to be born in the US (or any other developed country for that matter). So far (they are 10 and 12 years old) they have been to

    Hong Kong (10x's)
    China
    Vietnam
    Cambodia
    Okinawa
    Thailand
    Brunei
    Penang (Malaysia)
    Saba (Malaysia)
    Taiwan
