Good looking birds. Wild duck or goose are some of the best tasting meats you can put on your plate IMO.
Here's one from a couple of years ago.....
It's the same over here Steve, pike are put back alive to fight another day. I ask because we see TV programmes about survival techniques etc and although a different scenario, the pike caught are taken for food and I wondered if the species was on the menu in general. The meat is awful, I tried it once and it was like eating cotton wool and needles.
Here's a photo taken this year of my daughter and her rainbow trout. We go fly fishing on occasion and although she hasn't mastered the casting technique I let her bring the fish in. This was the biggest trout I ever hooked and I gave the rod to her before I realised how big it was.
Very nice trout !
I fish with spinning gear, and have never tried fly fishing, but it is popular here too.
Pike are not eaten generally, but some do. In the little lake that I fish, I saw a guy
once with 5 or 6 on a stringer who was going to remove them from the lake
because, as he said: "This is a Musky lake, eh.....", thinking that he could
single-handedly cleanse the lake of all the Pike in it !
It is illegal here to let game fish spoil.
Regards,
Steve.
